introduction

What is it like to live in the GCR where extreme wealth lives side by side with dire poverty, where on-going in-migration continually poses challenges for delivery the of services? In this section, we look at household incomes, the types of houses people live in and the spread of informal settlements. Then we focus on the various housing projects across the GCR that are improving the lives of citizens, and some promising service delivery statistics, but also the on-going incidence of service delivery protests. Finally, personal living circumstances and challenges such as poverty, health and transportation are considered. Many will be analysed in greater detail in future ‘State of the city-region’ reports.
